As of 4/25/20 – Cost of transforming Suburban Conference Center in Novi – unknown; but conversion of TCF Center and Cobo were 8.2 million each for 6 month leases. Suburban Center had as of 4/25/20 – 2 patients – TWO! If the cost of the facility is less, but even close to cost of the other 2 centers – that’s a combined cost to Michigan taxpayers of nearly 18 million. That is outrageous for the number of patient’s being treated – especially since I know of no other alternatives being sought. Phase 1 of re-opening the state was to have hospital capacity for any surges in CoVid cases. We are in phase 1. So, if that is true, the hospitals should have capacity to handle any surges and the lease should be cancelled ASAP. Businesses that use those facilities are being hurt – events are being cancelled. We are sorry to announce that the Michigan International Women’s Show will not take place this year. As you may remember, in March the show was rescheduled from its original April dates to June 25-28. The common belief then was, that by the end of June, the country, and shows, would be back in business. As we all know, those projections have been extended. In addition, the State of Michigan has since contracted to use the Suburban Collection Showplace as a field hospital through September, with no guarantees when that will end. The show was on track to be another fabulous event, and we are so disappointed it will not take place this year. However, our number one priority is, and always has been, the safety and health of show guests, and everyone involved with the show. With that as our guide, we are confident cancelling the show is the right decision. If you have already purchased a ticket for the show, please be looking for an email this week from the show that will provide details. Mark your calendars for the next show, April 29-May 2, 2021 at the Suburban Collection Showplace.
