Andrew McCarthy's column makes the point that when governments infringe on rights, it is the government's burden to prove the infringement was both necessary, and the least intrusive way to accomplish a legitimate objective. Those conditions are not met by any of the sweeping shutdown
orders across the land. Even if the orders were protecting the health of some people, they would be illegal for being so broad. But the evidence is they are not only wrong, but harmful to the health and wellbeing of the people, young, old, and in between.
