My faith would be partially restored if the DOJ charged various governors, police, and others for the deprivations of citizens’ constitutional rights.

I so agree. AG Barr did promise to follow through on this, but so far nothing.
Our Constitution hasn't changed. The politicians have changed. Their intentions to serve have not been disputed, but once in Washington DC, they cave to the lobbyists and big money machines. This is the only explanation why we have so many millionaires in Congress. A perfect example is Obama. He left the White House with millions! We don't even know how many millions he had when he left, but the first thing he did was take a year long vacation with his family then bought a multimillion dollar home in D.C., then another multimillion dollar home in the Hamptons! This is why the Convention of States movement is so important. We need to add an amendment to our Constitution to place term limits on Congress. The politicians who stay for 30 plus years are the problem. If they have limits of say two terms, that will take a big bite out of the problem. Think about it. Do you really believe that the current congress has your needs in the forefront? I thought so. They do not, hence the problem. When you're in government for that many years, you get caught up with the politics and lose sight of the politician who is to serve the American people. Google, "Convention of States" for more information. Thanks!
FirstGrandma15 is an agent of the Convention of States. These people don't realize how subversive this is, or if they do, are trying to subvert the Constitution as written and insert amendments which they think they can control. In a convention of States no one can control what may come out of it...think new civil rights for housing, healthcare, employment, you name it - the leftists unicorn nirvana.
Impossible you say? Why not - leftists have outmaneuvered conservatives for over a century. They own education, the courts, the oligarchy, the bureaucracies. Even if Grandma got her term limits, so what? The States would still have to approve and if they did they could pass their own term limits...but they have NOT done so. there is no reason to expect that they would approve such an amendment. Besides, one more law not to follow? Big deal.
Ask yourself if the Constitution is being followed as written. Answer: no.
Ask yourself if more "laws" not being followed will help. Answer: no.
So what makes you think a convention of states would do any good? It is a logical non-sequitur. (does not follow, makes no sense)
Pushing the responsibility on to politicians via a convention of states is just more insanity. WE THE PEOPLE have to REVOLT and take the power back, roll back all levels of government to original constitutional levels. This means many things...most of all virtually zero federal "laws". States rights become supreme again. The Federal Reserve is Abolished because it is unconstitutional. It would be a "fundamental transformation" but not in a leftist way, in an individual rights and responsibilities way.
Impossible? No. Likely, not very, at least not peaceably. Tyrants seldom give up power without a fight. You can see evidence of that everywhere in history, and today at all levels of government. Just look at the corruption of our "Justice" department.
Our founders tried everything peacefully first, as we are doing. Our government, if you read the offenses committed by the British in the Declaration of Independence, have followed in the Tyrants footsteps, all but quartering troops in Patriot houses. Even that they are doing via electronic spying. Yet we stand here idle, crying for a convention of states, or some other unicorn miracle to save us. We must make a stand, and be prepared to pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.
We must do this in our community where we live, in our State capitol, and in our Nation's capitol. We must not tolerate ANY act of tyranny no matter how small. We must put fear in the hearts of tyrants who would even think of such things. Our Constitution is our code, as founded and originally intended.
@leatherneck The convention of states is being called specifically to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints, and place term limits on federal officials. Every state that passes a convention of states application has be in agreement on these topics in order to be part of the 34 state total. Furthermore, throughout American history almost all conventions have been limited by topic so the fears that a CoS called to limit federal power and spending could instead ratchet up spending and give the government more power is a little absurd.
Also, while there are quite a few interpretations of the constitution that allow for things to be twisted and abused it doesn't mean that the constitution is inherently not followed. But what's the alternative? We are a nation of laws (imperfectly followed to be sure) but this is currently the best route for the American people who have lost faith in the government's desire to restrain itself.
I find it hilarious that you'd suggest that we the people have to revolt to roll back the constitution to what it was. That's in essence what the CoS is designed to do (just more peacefully). And if you're worried that law abiding citizens will plunge this country into chaos via a run-away convention then how do you propose that citizens revolting against their government will end up in an orderly law abiding civilization and not descend into anarchy? To me it sounds like what you're proposing has an exponentially higher chance than a CoS of backfiring and destroying the country in civil war and anarchy...
Remember that unlike our forefathers, we've actually been given a government that has built in tools for the citizens to impose their will on the government. Perhaps someday revolting will be the only path forward but as long as we have been given a solution it seems silly to ignore it.
@Drenathor "Also, while there are quite a few interpretations of the constitution that allow for things to be twisted and abused it doesn't mean that the constitution is inherently not followed. "
The COTUS is not being followed AT ALL. Remember enumerated powers? Recognize ANY LIMITS on federal powers in our current government? Hell no.
Wake up man, we live in a lawless country. Only by massive self-deception can you possibly think we abide by anything remotely close to the COTUS.
Again I ask: What makes you think passing MORE LAWS, that will be ignored and/or subverted by "congress" and the gang of nine, would do any good? It's insane to think that it would.
@leatherneck You can't honestly say that the constitution isn't being followed at all. Which of the enumerated powers is the government ignoring (because I can list more than a few that they still follow)? The problem is that over the centuries the government has voted to give itself more and more power. The point of amending the constitution is to add additional limits to it and reign the government back in a little (because we all know they won't do that).
There are court cases that take place every day in this country that uphold the constitution and right now governors are being investigated for violating their citizen's constitutional rights. To say it isn't being followed "at all" is just delusional.
But the bigger point is that you are actually the one arguing for not following the constitution. You're ignoring the provisions set out for "we the people" and the tools that our constitution has given us and going straight to anarchy. If you think that a CoS could go south and cause more issues but somehow an uprising against our government will usher in utopia then sadly I think this is one conversation that we will never agree on.
Don't be so quick to throw away the constitution like you're accusing others of doing. Obviously things are not perfect (by any stretch of the imagination) but it's at least worth a try.
Yo Chris -- it is disheartening to realize that there is no equal justice under the law, and that there hasn't been for decades (14th amendment). However take heart in the fact that you recognize this truth, where many, many do not.
Defining the problem is the first step to solving it. Therefore, when you have a corrupt justice system from top to bottom (Supreme Court down to lowest level enforcement officers) what should you do? What has been done in history when these circumstances existed?
You now know the answer, if you can face yet more grim facts. You have taken the Red pill, and know the facts. Most of America prefers the blue pill, and lives in total ignorance.
Honor, Courage, Commitment my friend.
Leatherneck - Sorry to disappoint you but I am not an agent of the COS. I've never been to a meeting nor donated to it. I just believe it is a Constitutional way to make big changes in our state and federal governments.
I got a kick out of you asking two questions then answering them. What's the point in that? I agree with most of what you are saying. I describe it as the "swamp". The problem is, unlike what I've written and referenced to, you haven't offered any real solutions to the issues and problems you bring to bare. If you have legal solutions to what you bring out, please share if you like. There's power in numbers. Thanks!
unfortunately our rights will not be protected by any government agency. It is the duty of a free people to stand up for our own rights. The preamble of the US constitution does not say "We the Department of Justice" it says "We the People". It is always up to informed and active citizens to defend our own rights, and if we rely on government agencies to do it for us, we will always be disappointed.
THIS is all you need to know about the "Convention of States". Written by Publius Huldah, you will find it comprehensive.
