I'm not sure that I agree with this article. First I personally don't think that Derek Chauvin was what led Americans to believe that there are systemic problems with policing in America. I think that's the result of a dishonest media cycle that endlessly focuses on a handful of cases in an attempt to skew public perception and create divisions. If the media was constantly celebrating the cops who saved the lives of black people every day in America and denouncing black on black murder I think we'd have a very different perception of things. It's the media narrative that's fueling this IMHO and that's far more devastating and divisive than the actions of any rogue cop.
Second when it comes to the coronavirus it's easy to point the finger at the president, but we live in a United States and for good or for ill the states have the authority to handle this how they want (to an extent). I know many are mad at republicans for not doing more to prevent democrat run states from abusing their people but I think if they were we'd have a dangerous precedent that future democrats could use to impose government authority from the Whitehouse and limited legal precedent to do anything about it at the state level. But once again, I think I blame the dishonest media companies that have spread lies far and wide about the reach and impact of the coronavirus. If the media was honest and fair in their coverage of COVID-19 I think Americans would be viewing things VERY differently right now. So why do I bring that up? If we don't do something to keep the fake narratives in check and stop rewarding them with views and ad revenue it doesn't really matter what we do in the future. Even if we "reboot society" if the same media is there with a drip feed of poison going into the minds and hearts of Americans nothing will change in the long run. People have to stand up for truth and not be silent when lies are spread. Unfortunately right now people are afraid to do this in many cases due to the very real risk of losing their jobs and I get that. But this will never end unless we take a good hard look at how and why we are allowing lies to become so prevalent in our society that truth has become vilified and punishable. It's unfortunately the dark side of freedom. But freedom is worth it. We just have to be willing to let good men and women stand up for what's right.
