A lot of these looters were flown in there. So they had their own agenda. This is what is really happening, Social justice and those who back this stuff. Not about the death.
Did you see the press briefing by St. Paul's mayor that all of those arrested were from out of the area? Curious. I feel badly for the firefigher and others who's businesses were torched.
@dee.king64 I missed that! I knew a lot of the people here weren't from the area but I didn't know that all of the arrests were from people out of town...
Yeah I feel terrible for this guy. He didn't even have insurance so all this damage is going to come out of his pocket too...
It's why I think that these rioters that come from out of town are nothing more than opportunists who amount to little more than domestic terrorists. All these looters running out of stores with shopping carts full of stolen goods and profiting off of other's misfortunes; how does that bring justice to anyone? I can't imagine what sick twisted person hears news that someone tragically died and immediately thinks "I need to hop in my car right now and drive to MN so that I can steal a bunch of stuff and profit off of this at the expense of innocent people"...
One of my friends is now worried because stores are closing down all throughout the area due to the riots and she can't get her heart medicine now. I just don't understand the people that try to justify this kind of evil behavior.
More and more reports are coming out that the rioters and looters in many of the cities are not members of the community but "professional" protestors from organizations like Antifa. Here's just one of a number of them I watched today: https://youtu.be/nnmdrn49-a0.
Such a shame that there are people who use other people's pain to push their agenda with no concern for who gets hurt. Particularly with regard to Antifa. People have been warning for years that they should be classified as a domestic terrorist group. It just unnerves me that governors, who were so emboldened mere days and weeks ago to order arrests of people re-opening their businesses or attending church, are reluctant to take action against these rioters who are further destroying people's lives. Makes no sense at all.
Thanks for the video link @dee.king64. I'd heard rumors before about people being bussed in for these riots before and was never sure if that was just internet conspiracy theories or not. To hear that people are being paid to cause this pain and suffering is just horrifying...
What's especially sad to me is that in the long run 3 injustices occur. First, there's the initial unnecessary death. Second, there's all the innocent victims of the riots. And third, there's the perpetuated stereotype that blacks are inherently violent (because you don't see these kinds of riots when white people are killed)
I'm already seeing memes floating all over the internet and news headlines comparing these riots to the deaths of white people and I just have to wonder. Who do these protestors and organizers think they are helping? This isn't going to help race relations and it's not going to help the community. It's not going to do anything positive. So what's the agenda? For the people funding these things and organizing online - is it just an excuse to steal from local businesses? Or do people actually think somehow that this is the solution to a problem and that they are being helpful?
Not really sure. I understand the anger everyone is feeling, I really do. It does sometimes feel as if black men are targeted by police, but when I consider things rationally, I realize it's only because when incidents like these happen they're covered non-stop over the news and social media. Whereas, when something similar happens to a white person or non-black person, it's rarely mentioned outside of the local news outlets. And now with so many people wanting to paint President Trump as a racist, which I don't think he is, I believe the media gets some type of twisted pleasure from hyping these incidents to the nth degree to support their narrative that America is increasingly racist and it's Trump's fault. Somehow he's to blame when other people behave badly because God forbid individuals be held accountable for their own actions.
Unfortunately, I think the bigger issue here that people are missing is police brutality in general. Not every officer is guilty, of course, but enough of them are that it paints the rest in a bad light, especially if they aren't held accountable. During this lockdown, I feel like I've seen the worst of this worst. Officers in New York yanked a woman off the subway for not wearing a mask, threw her to ground and handcuffed her in front of her child. Then there were the officers in Wisconsin who bullied a woman for letting her child go outside to play. And now, there are reports coming out that the officer who killed George Floyd had been investigated multiple times before this incident for excessive use of force. Why had he not been disciplined before? Why was he still on active duty?
As for the rioters. I've heard Antifa mentioned as being one of the groups involved in instigating the riots. And from what I understand they're anarchists whose goal is to tear down society as a whole--leave nothing standing. Somehow they've decided Western civilization and capitalism are bad, so they behave like bored kids who have nothing better to do than stir up chaos to "tear down the system." Some people have even suggested neo-Nazi groups may also be involved because they want to make to Black people look bad.
At this point, someone has to step up to restore law and order, but based on news reports I'm hearing the mayors and governors are reluctant to do so because they don't want to be called racist. Even President Trump seems a bit tentative, although he has placed the Federal National Guard on standby. In the meantime, Blacks and other minorities and small business owners are losing their businesses, people are justifiably in fear of their lives, and nothing constructive is really being accomplished. And some of the so-called leaders within the Black community who should be calling for calm are calling for more violence, because they need for more America to be racist since many of them would otherwise serve no purpose to the Black community. For some of us, they already serve no purpose. As my father used to say about his army service, "I didn't go to war for Black America. I didn't go to war for White America. I went to war for the United States of America."
I love that quote from your father about his army service @dee.king64
Sadly I guess at the end of the day, as long as a few influential and powerful people think that they can profit off of racial divides (politically or financially) this probably won't ever end...
Thanks for the thoughtful posts BTW. They've been quite insightful and I've learned several things that I didn't know before today as a result.
Thank you, too. I appreciate the civil discourse. I like to believe that people are more alike than they are different. Unfortunately, as you say there are people in positions of power who profit from racial division so they do their best to keep people divided. I am still hopeful more will people will wake up to the deception.
