The 1905 case Jacobson v. Massachusetts supreme court ruled that communities have the right to protect themselves against an epidemic of disease that poses a great danger to their members. The disease of that time was smallpox. Small pox has nearly a 30% fatality rate and often leaves people who recover from it with permanent damage, including scaring and blindness. It is a "great danger" to the public.
Covid-19 by contrast, poses nearly no risk of death to healthy people and even the risk of death to people with underlying medical conditions is relatively low (6.5%). I've written an article called the Covid-19 media project that uses CDC data and a basic but medically consistent understanding of immunology to that the virus poses no risk of death to about 98% of the population. The article should be legally considered evidence that Covid-19 cannot be considered a great danger to the public and therefore there is no basis for states to impose restrictions to protect people from it.
In addition to establishing risk, the article also examines media articles to show why the misconceptions exist that Covid-19 is randomly deadly. The business model of the media is pretty simple, attract attention and sell advertising. The media made ever effort to exagerate the danger of the virus because in doing so, the story would attract more attention and developments on the story would continute to attract attention. Politicans responded to the public perception created by the media. Some politicians as the interests they represented were being harmed by the lock downs and public opinion began to shift as the public's interests were being harmed, change their positions. Other politicans who saw the exaggerated danger as being poliltically advantageous have maintained the virus is a great threat and randomly deadly.
One issue we have even after the lockdowns is public perception. As it stands now, probably 60% of the country is still under the impression that the virus is very dangerous. After the lockdowns many jobs lost are not going to come back in addition to small business who will not recover. Many sectors of the economy that provide goods and services that require people to be in close proximity to one another will continue to suffer and downsize. Once we win the legal battles to resume our lives, we still need to change public opinion to save our economy. orioncs.net
the AMA and fauci, the socialist, are attempting to manipulate the way the people think about this so-called virus which is not nearly as harmful as the common flu
It's comparable to the flu, where the flu would produce as many or more deaths if there were no flu vaccine. That's really the point, if the flu has never been a justification to shut down life in the United States, then Covid-19 is not either because the symptoms are the same, and the risk of mortality is about the same.
I am fully in agreement with what I have just read. Today I read that a Stanford doctor made it clear based on his studies that social distancing and wareing facemasks are of no benefit as protection. Bottom line he said was some will get sick and some will die but lockdown not necessary. I have seen several articles following this same advise. In all my almost 74 years I've seen a lot of viruses and infectious diseases. This is totally a political move using this virus to gain control of our culture with a target to do at least two things. 1 create change in our culture to lean towards socialism and 2 end Donald Trump as President.
Could not agree with this more. I also saw the same study from that Stanford doctor and many, many more. This has gone too damn far and Colordans need to put PRESSURE on the mayors (Hancock) and the Governor to not only open up fully but lift this damn mask mandate. They also need to inform businesses that you cannot "require" face coverings, but you can recommend it. We went to Cheyenne just to eat in a real restaurant and NO ONE on the streets needed a mask and the fact that we ate out was fantastic. People were happy, having fun, enjoying their drinks, and eating. They had the tables spread apart of course but so what. It was nice. I'll give my dollars to other states that are being reasonable and opening up without massive restrictions. This has become not about the virus, but about control. If this were about the virus then you can do a few simple things: protect the elderly, let people live their damn lives freely, and if hotspots pop up, then stamp them out...it's easy.....we need games with fans, concerts with fans, and we need to not feel guilty for wanting to live a great life. What can we do as Coloradans to get this message across????
we can only try to make those people see the light and stop this crap which is completely against the Constitution of this country in which we live. It they want a fight they will get it and they will not like the outcome!
