Since Facebook is refusing to allow us to utilize their platform to promote openthestates.com, the Arkansas team sent out email blasts to all the COS petition signers in the state last week. The email blast talked up the openthestates petition and asked people to sign it so that the governor, lt. governor, state representative, state senator, and Congressman would get a letter from them telling them to open the state of Arkansas up for business. We also urged them to call the governor's office, their state legislator and their Congressman's office telling them to open the state.
State legislators were inundated with their constituents to open the state up for business and allow us to go back to work. They wrote a letter to the governor and one of them posted on Facebook what the letter said. I have copied it and and pasted it below. Posted by State Representative Robin Lundstrum. Note that she is encouraging folks to call the Governor and demand that he not phase in, but totally open the state. We now have state legislators lobbying the governor to open the state. All, I believe it is time to open up the State of Arkansas. Arkansans know what to do! Because of the great framework done by Governor Hutchinson and his team, we are in a solid position to open the State of Arkansas now. We can trust the people of Arkansas. We know that dentists, hospitals, hairdressers, restaurants, and places of worship all over this state understand the risks and responsibilities involved. WE THE PEOPLE are capable of taking on this challenge without being micromanaged by unelected though well-intentioned bureaucrats. We are adults. We know to wash our hands more often, socially distance when necessary and to wear a mask if needed. We must speak up now so that every part of our life won’t be micromanaged by well-meaning people who think they know what’s best! These unelected bodies don’t answer to you, they can and will issue dictates and we will be told like sheep to follow. We are not sheep we are Arkansans. Constituents have talked to me for weeks now including doctors who are very worried about their patients from those with cardiac issues to mental patients needing therapy, business owners and employees who are scared to death of losing their jobs and at every turn the same conclusion. They say, we trust “you people in Little Rock” but only for so long! Just don’t go too far! We are at the point of going too far!!! I believe this piecemeal approach of reopening is burdensome and confusing. It is also an extreme form of micromanagement. The problems we are facing now can be solved by returning to work and using good old-fashioned common sense. I am concerned about out of control state spending (your money by the way) in response to the pandemic too. If this virus circles back on us in the fall, will we be prepared? Not if we keep spending. Please reach out to the Governor and 1. Thank you the Governor and his team for their work 2. Let the Governor know We The People of Arkansas - We’ve got this! The Honorable Asa Hutchinson Governor of Arkansas 500 Woodlane Avenue State Capitol, Room 250 Little Rock, AR 72201 501-682-2345 email@example.com Respectfully, Robin State Representative Robin Lundstrum, District 87 firstname.lastname@example.org “Cowardice asks the question, “Is it safe?” Expediency asks the question, “Is it politic?” But conscience ask the questions, “Is it right?” and there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, not politic, nor popular but because conscience tells one it Is right.” Martin Luther King Jr.
