Monday, May 25 is Memorial Day, a day when our decorated heroes are recognized and paid respect nation wide. Ceremonies at cemeteries and family picnics in parks should be the activities of the day. Instead, many towns and parks will be quiet and vacant.
No city celebrations are scheduled. Veteran's groups are quietly contemplating how they will recognize and respectfully honor their fallen brothers and sisters. Arizona American Legion Post 131, Green Valley, has one of the highest WWII Veteran populations in the nation.
Many conflicts have been fought defending the freedoms that we have held so precious over the years. This year is different. What would these stalwart soldiers think if they could see us now? I shudder to think.
But I am healthy as are all of my fortunate friends and family. That is why we are gathering for a flag wave at the entrance to the cemetery this Monday. We will be supporting a small group of brave citizens who will be honoring the fallen veterans from this past year and their families.
Please activate your community of friends to do the same in your area. Conduct a respectful flag wave, a visible reminder to the rest of the world, that there are bigger forces in the universe than a little chinese virus trying to keep Americans down.
