When this all started, we voluntarily complied because we saw the videos from China of people collapsing in the streets and fog machines doing some type of decontamination. We had no idea what had been released or how dangerous it was. We were told 2.2 million would die and we needed to protect ourselves by restricting our contact with each other. They told us we had to "flatten the curve" so hospitals wouldn't be overwhelmed. Mission accomplished. Now we have data that refutes those models. It appears more people have already had it and recovered than we were told. If you were sick in January-March with a cough and fever, you likely had it and never knew. The good news is that with it being more prevalent, it reduces the mortality rate(simple math). That rate is further reduced if you remove the deaths that can be associated with other primary causes. It also means we are likely approaching herd immunity. It's time to reevaluate our response. Keep the vulnerable protected and let the rest of us return to our lives. I reject the notion of a "new normal." I intend to go back to life as I was living it before. I'll hug my kids and grandkids. I'll shake your hand if you offer it. I won't wear a mask unless required by a private business that I must use, but I will be less likely to use the ones that do. I refuse to live in fear of germ!
